What the numbers really deliver
Rated capacity is the cell, not the output. After voltage conversion you get roughly 60–70% of the printed figure. So a 10,000 mAh bank is about two full phone charges and a 20,000 mAh bank is about four, or one partial laptop charge. Anyone quoting more than that is reading the cell rating off the box.
Watts matter as much as mAh
Capacity says how much energy is stored; wattage says how fast it comes out. A 20,000 mAh bank at 10W will take hours to move meaningful charge into a laptop. Look for USB-C Power Delivery at 20W minimum, and 65W if a laptop is genuinely in scope.
Weight and pockets
A 20,000 mAh pack weighs around a pound. It is a bag item, not a pocket item, and recipients who expected pocketable will say so. If portability is the point, 5,000 mAh in power banks is the better gift.
Shipping
Larger cells attract tighter transport rules. Above 100Wh a pack cannot travel on passenger aircraft at all, and even below that some carriers restrict bulk lithium shipments. Tell us your event date early — this is the category where transit, not production, breaks deadlines.
