Short answer: for recipients with Qi-enabled phones, a verified Qi Certified pad is a straightforward lower-budget option. Choose a verified Qi2 or Qi2 25W model when its supported devices, magnetic attachment and charging speed fit your audience. “MagSafe-compatible” describes magnets that fit MagSafe iPhones; on its own it says nothing about speed or certification. If you do not know whether recipients’ phones charge wirelessly, a cable-based charger is the safer gift.
What is the difference?
| Qi | Qi2 | Qi2 25W | “MagSafe-compatible” | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Defined by | Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) | WPC | WPC | No standard; a description |
| Alignment | Place the phone on the right spot | Magnetic ring snaps the phone into place | Magnetic, as Qi2 | Magnets that fit MagSafe iPhones |
| Speed | Depends on phone and charger | Up to 15W on supported phones | Up to 25W on supported phones, charger and power adapter | Varies |
| Certification to check | WPC product database | WPC product database | WPC product database | None for the claim itself |
Qi2 adopted Apple’s MagSafe magnetic design as a WPC standard. Qi2 25W, launched by the WPC in 2025, is a faster version; it reaches that speed only when the phone, the charger and the power adapter all support it.
Will a Qi2 charger work with an Android phone?
Qi2 chargers are backward compatible with Qi phones, and a growing number of Android phones support Qi2, some only with a magnetic case. Whether it works well in practice depends on the exact phone and charger pair: an upright magnetic stand is much less usable for a phone without magnets than a flat pad. Check the supported devices for the specific model.
Does the wattage on the box mean the phone charges that fast?
Not necessarily. The phone sets its own limit; iPhones, for example, charge at up to 7.5W on a standard Qi charger. A product can also list its wall adapter’s power, one position’s output or the total of all positions, and those are different numbers. Ask us which figure a product’s wattage refers to.
What does “certified” mean?
A certified Qi or Qi2 product has passed WPC testing and is listed in the WPC’s public product database under the exact model. “Qi-compatible” and “Qi-equivalent” claims do not, on their own, prove certification. Before ordering a product described as certified, verify the exact model in the database or ask us to.
What do they cost with a logo?
From our current catalog, counting products whose supplier data mention each standard:
| Group | Products | Median minimum order | Median price at the minimum | Lowest price at the minimum |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mentions Qi2 | 20 | 8 pieces | $120.78 | $43.98 |
| Mentions MagSafe | 64 | 12 pieces | $62.45 | $11.53 |
| Mentions Qi, not Qi2 or MagSafe | 139 | 25 pieces | $38.78 | $6.45 |
Method: catalog snapshot of October 15, 2026. Groups are based on the words in supplier product data, not on verified WPC listings, and the first two overlap (16 products mention both). Medians use only products whose price includes decoration. Prices exclude setup, shipping and tax.
Qi2 sits at the top because most Qi2 products in promotional catalogs today are branded retail models sold in small minimums, for example the Anker MagGo 10K Qi2 power bank from 12 pieces at $103.50 with a pad-printed logo.
Which one should you choose?
- High-volume giveaway, mixed phones: a Qi pad or stand. See wireless chargers and charging pads.
- Client or executive gift for recent iPhone users: a verified Qi2 or Qi2 25W model. See Qi2 certified.
- Team desk accessory, mid budget, recent iPhones: a magnetic stand. See MagSafe-compatible and check each product’s speed.
- Unknown phones: a cable or wall charger. See charging cables.
Does wireless charging work through a case?
Through most thin plastic, silicone or leather cases, yes. Thick or rugged cases, metal plates, magnetic mounts, grips and cards in the case can slow or block charging.
